Sojourners Magazine, June 2008

Look mom, I’m on the cover of a magazine!

Last March I received an email from one of editors Sojourners Magazine letting me know that they wanted to run a profile of me as part of 10 Young Christian Leaders to Watch. I’m honored to be among such a great group of fellow young conspirators in the upcoming issue of Sojourners Magazine.

Make sure you read all the profiles, including the web extras.

  • And much, much more.

The rediscovery of Celtic Christianity has been a delightful revelation for many followers of Christ in recent years. Many Christians are intrigued by this rich tradition and by the men and women who led it. They were described as God intoxicated people who lived with an intense sense of the presence of God. All of life and all of creation were embraced by the triune God whom they believed walked with them throughout life’s journey.

The invigorating prayers and traditions of this movement continue to inspire people today. Come and learn from the Celtic saints and see how this wonderful Christian tradition can enrich and empower your prayer life and your spiritual observances. This day long seminar will explore the lives of Patrick, Columba, Brigit and Brendan and the rich understanding of prayer that each of these Christian leaders brought to their faith.

Discover new ways to connect your prayer walk to your everyday life as you explore the many examples of prayer that under girded the lives of these dynamic ancient followers of Jesus. Discover a deeper understanding of prayer as you learn to write Celtic prayers based on your own life situation.

Schedule for the Day:

  • 9:00 Welcome & morning prayer
  • 9:30 Learning from Patrick – the all encompassing presence of Christ
  • 10:30 Break
  • 11:00 Learning from Columba – rhythms for life
  • Lunch
  • 1:00 Learning from Brigid & Brendan – journey into hospitality
  • 2:30 – 4:00 Writing prayers for the journey

What’s happening at MSH

In In the House on May 13, 2008 at 5:42 pm

It’s been awhile seen we’ve let you know what is happening around here. So here it is a non-exhaustive update:

  • We’re getting our hands dirty again at the garden. Salad greens are planted, so are the onions, potatoes, strawberries, tomatoes, beans, peas, basil, broccoli, cauliflower and other goodies.

  • Gabriel went from crawling to running and jumping and occasionally falling
  • Catie have become an astronomy whiz. She is all intrigued by the cosmos. She will take any chance she can get to let you know about her latest findings about nebulae, Kuiper Belt, dwarf planets and other things we adult don’t remember ever learning in school.

  • Tom’s book – The New Conspirators – is finally out and Christine have been very busy gardening as well as working on the MSH Morning and Evening prayer book. They both just got back from Australia where they had the chance to visit Christine’s family and also do some speaking and conspire with other communities.
  • Peter and Anneke are living very interesting times right now, with exciting new developing in their lives. Can’t say much now, but stay tuned for more.
  • Ricci will be launching a new blog in June entitled “The Revolution Starts at Home“. It will be a space for opening a discussion about how, as followers of Jesus, we can reclaim those areas of our lives, by many viewed as boring and dull, to be sacred and take small steps each day to bring them back into the spiritual realm of our lives; or better yet, expand the spiritual to leave nothing out!
  • Eliacín will appear in the next issue of Sojourners Magazine as 1 of the 10 Young Christian Leaders to watch.
  • Recently we’ve hosted a learning party about Social Media and Mission. It gave us the opportunity to explore issues of technology as tools to foster relationships.
  • We are still praying, dreaming and working on our Rule of Life.
  • We are glad to have West Sine and his dog sky living with us full time now.
  • We’ve been approached by many friends interested in been part of the community in ways similar to a third other. This is an area in which we are seriously considering, praying and talking about.
